|Focus Media Holding Limited (Nasdaq: FMCN) operates China's largest lifestyle targeted interactive digital media network. The increasingly fragmented and mobile lifestyle of Chinese urban consumers has created the need for more efficient media means to capture consumer attention. Focus Media's mission is to build an increasingly comprehensive and measurable interactive urban media network that reaches consumers at various out-of-home locations.
Focus Media established the LCD display network by installing flat-panel LCD interactive displays in high-traffic areas, such as elevator bank of commercial buildings to target business professionals with higher-than-average income. As of March 31, 2011, our LCD display network had an installation base of approximately 170,000 flat-panel displays in about 90,500 commercial buildings that covered over 90 cities in China.
Focus Media established the in-store network in April 2005. Our in-store network targets shoppers at the point-of-purchase through flat-panel displays at prominent locations in hypermarkets, supermarkets and convenience stores, such as on the product shelves at eye-level. As of March 31, 2011, our in-store network had approximately 49,000 flat panel displays installed in more than 2,700 hypermarkets, supermarkets and convenience stores in China.
In October 2005, Focus Media acquired Framedia, which operated the largest in-elevator poster frame advertising network in China and provides brand advertisers and community service providers a direct channel to target urban residential communities. As of March 31, 2011, our poster frame network had 378,000 in-elevator poster and digital picture frames in residential buildings that covered more than 30 cities all over China.
In July 2006, Focus Media acquired the majority equity interest of ACL to start building up our movie theater network, which leases screen time prior to the screening of each movie shown from movie theaters in urban cities in China, and then sells those time slots to advertisers. As of March 31, 2011, our movie theatre network covered approximately 1,700 movie screens in about 280 movie theaters throughout China.
